Get Better Hair!

Haircare was not first on my list of products to switch when I started to switch to safer personal care products – I figured, hey it’s not on my head that long and then I wash it out – it’s not like I’m eating it, or slathering it all over my skin to be absorbed.  There have been two articles posted by NPR and Times Magazine that highlighted the dangers of the ingredients in our hair care products.  Prefer to watch a video, check out this 12 minute speech from Gregg Renfrew (Beautycounter’s Founder and CEO) which touches on the dangers in the personal care industry, and directly references the Wen shampoo complaints that caused children to go bald!

With knowledge, comes the responsibility to change, so I dug deeper into the products I was using, before I switched to safer shampoo and conditioner I was using Matrix Biolage Volumebloom shampoo and conditioner – not terrible but not great as rated by the EWG skin deep resource.  Take a look at how it was rated below – note you may want to drill in beyond the overall rating so that you can see the details behind the ingredients used and how they could be affecting your health.

I have been bouncing around trying a few other brands, by Jason, Accure, and Beautycounter but hadn’t found anything I loved or that my hair loved that is.  However, today Beautycounter launched a new hair care line – 3 different lines: Volume and Shape, Smooth and Control, and Repair and Nourish.  These three lines have a shampoo, conditioner, and treatment step and are formulated without sulfates, mineral oil, silicones, or synthetic fragrances, our next-generation hair care delivers high performance and safety.

I cannot wait to try these out and see how my hair reacts!  What’s your most common hair issue? Have you found anything that you love?  A product that you cannot figure out how to replace?
