Beauty routine and Self Care products

I’ve had a few questions about beauty and self care products lately, and it’s been awhile since I posted on that (really anything…) so I thought I’d share what I’m doing now.   I am currently ordering most of these product through Thrive Market – you can check them out and sign up here. It’s been worth the membership fee for me, one it’s better prices and two it’s delivered to my door….which eliminates all of that hunting for good products that you have to do and becomes exponentially harder when you have a baby in tow!

I’m pretty simple and have really reduced the products that I use.

Shower – I use Dr Bronnets soap for my body, peppermint or citrus right now. I like the liquid but the bar is cheaper and more portable. I wash my face with African black soap. Usually I take my makeup off before I get in the shower by rubbing a little coconut oil on my face and taking it off that way first. I am still using “normal” shampoo, can’t find anything I like that’s natural.

Daily- I really like the Dr Bronners toothpaste right now. I’ve also used one by Jason that was good. The natural ones aren’t really foamy but you get over that after a few uses. I rotate through a few deodorants, right now I’m using Toms Lavender and a spray one by Weledea. I use the Weledea products for my son and like them a lot. For lotion I make my own. Right now it’s scented lemon basil 🙂

Face/MakeUp- this tends to be a whole separate place. I’ve been upgrading what I use here as well. I use a mineral based powder from Caren Minerals and a bronzer from them in the summer. I have eye liner, eye shadow, and mascara that I get from Thrive Market. If I’m dressing up, I still have some of my traditional makeup that I would use every once in awhile.

Nails- finding good nail polish is hard. This got much easier when I started ordering from Thrive Market. I got my nail polish remover from Whole Foods.

Face serum- I make my own and use as moisturizer at night and sometimes again in the morning. It’s grape seed oil with essential oils: frankenscense, geranium, lavender, helichrysm.

Perfume- I don’t do fragrance anymore. I use essential oils instead. It’s based on my mood really but I have two blends right now that I use regularly.

What are the products that you struggle most with replacing?  What do you love that you can’t live without?  Want to know if what you’re using is really all that bad….check out this special on CBS on chemicals in beauty products and the list of thing to watch from the Environmental Working Group for cosmetics, cleaning supplies, sunscreen, and more.  (PS I also ordered all my sunscreen this summer from Thrive Market – Kiss My Face and Alba were rated highly on the EWG list!)
